Invitation to Holy Week 2024

Every year, Christians around the world are encouraged to participate in keeping Holy Week, well, holy. There are plenty of other options. This year in the United States, NCAA Basketball tournament games are running straight though Holy Week with March Madness games scheduled throughout the day on both Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday.

But sports aren't the only distraction. Spring weather itself, absolutely gorgeous in northwest Louisiana this time of the year, can distract us from rehearsing the events of Holy Week leading up to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

There's something special about "being there" in our lives. Just this afternoon, while strolling through the grounds of the R.W. Norton Art Gallery in Shreveport, I snapped several pictures of the blooming azaleas to text to my children, each of whom appreciate natural beauty. Even while taking the pictures, I realized a static photograph, even a high quality one, cannot begin to capture the sense of "being there."

Its the same dynamic at play with worship and our common life together as followers of Jesus Christ. Watching a worship service online can be inspiring but, just like looking at a picture of hundreds of azalea bushes in full bloom, there's nothing quite like "being there" and experiencing the real thing in real time.

Check out the 'Events' section of the All Saints Anglican Church website for days and times for our Holy Week services. Let's commit to walking together through this somber, contemplative and celebratory week in the life of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Let's "be there" with each other and for each other.

We'll be glad we did. We'll all be better for doing so. The world around us will become a better place. So, invite a family member, a friend, a co-worker, a neighbor and let's meet this Holy Week at All Saints Anglican Church in Shreveport.

I invite you to the observance of a holy Holy Week.

Yours in Christ,

Fr. Tony+
